31/4 Cup all purpose Flour
1tsp. baking Soda
½ tsp. baking Powder
½ tsp. ground Nutmeg
1/8 tsp. Salt
2 slightly beaten eggs
½ Cup sugar
2 tbs. butter or Margarine, melted
1 Cup buttermilk
Shortening for deep- frying
In a mixing bowl combine, Flour, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt; and set aside. In a larger mixing bowl beat eggs and sugar until thick and fluffy. Stir in melted butter or margarine. Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately to egg mixture; beat just till blended after each addition. Cover and chill for about 2 hours.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll to ½ inches thick and cut out with a 21/2 inch doughnut cutter. Fry deep, hot shortening (375) about 1 minute each side or until lightly golden brown. Drain oil on paper towel and sprinkle with powder sugar. Makes 18
